Gradients.design provides a website and a free Chrome extension for browsing and discovering gradient designs. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
The Gradient New Tab extension replaces your new tab page with a curated gradient background. It allows you to shuffle gradients, save favorites, and browse color palettes.
Your favorites, preferences, and settings are stored using Chrome's local storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
storage — to save your favorites and preferences locally. topSites — to optionally display your most visited sites as shortcuts. favicon — to show website icons for shortcuts.
The extension may fetch gradient data and color palettes from gradients.design. No personal information is included in these requests.
Your gradient preferences are stored in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device.
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand general usage patterns (page views). No personally identifiable information is collected.
We use minimal, essential cookies for basic functionality. We do not use tracking cookies or share data with third-party advertisers.
Gradients.design may use third-party services for hosting and font loading (e.g., Google Fonts). These services may collect standard web request data (IP address, browser type) as part of their normal operation.
The free editor at gradients.design works without an account. We do not collect personal information, browsing history, or any form of user tracking data when you use the editor anonymously. The Chrome extension also operates without requiring sign-in.
Signed-in features (cloud-saved gradients, paid Starter/Pro/Studio plans) require an account, processed via our authentication provider Clerk (Clerk, Inc., 660 King St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). Clerk processes your email address, name (if provided), and authentication tokens. See Clerk privacy policy.
For social sign-in (e.g. Google), the OAuth provider also receives a request for your basic profile (name, email, avatar URL). We do not store your password; Clerk handles authentication.
Account data is retained for as long as the account exists. You can delete your account at any time from the account page, which removes your profile and saved gradients from our database within 30 days.
Payments are processed by Stripe Payments Europe Ltd. (Block 4, Harcourt Centre, Harcourt Road, Dublin 2, Ireland). Stripe collects your name, billing address, payment card details, IP address, and country. We do not store, transmit, or have access to your full payment card number; Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified and handles all card data directly.
For each subscription, our system stores a Stripe customer ID and subscription metadata (price ID, status, period dates) linked to your account so we can enforce plan entitlements. See Stripe privacy policy.
Invoice and tax records are retained for ten years as required by German tax law (§ 147 AO). You can download your invoices any time from the Stripe Customer Portal.
The site is hosted on Vercel Inc. (340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA). User account data is stored in a managed Turso database (ChiselStrike Inc., USA), region eu-west-1 (Ireland). Both providers act as data processors under GDPR Art. 28. We have Data Processing Agreements with each.
When you export a gradient (PNG, MP4, CSS, React component, etc.), the rendering and export happens entirely in your browser. The resulting file is generated on your device and downloaded directly. No gradient image or video data is sent to our servers.
For paid users, we record minimal usage events (feature name, success/failure status, anonymised metadata) tied to your account ID. This is used solely to enforce per-hour rate limits and monthly video quotas, and to debug support tickets. Usage logs are retained for 90 days, then deleted.
Under GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@gradients.design and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in Baden-Württemberg (Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg).
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
